QUALIFIED MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONAL (QMHP)

Help adults living with serious mental illness build stability, skills, independence, and successful community connections.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The QMHP provides recovery-oriented clinical services, coordinates individualized care, supports the treatment team, and promotes trauma-informed, person-centered rehabilitation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in clinical assessments, individualized treatment planning, progress reviews, and discharge preparation.
  • Provide recovery-oriented individual and group interventions that build coping, symptom-management, interpersonal, and community-living skills.
  • Monitor and document resident progress toward treatment and recovery goals.
  • Provide clinical direction and supervision to assigned mental health and rehabilitation staff.
  • Respond appropriately to behavioral-health concerns and psychiatric crises.
  • Coordinate services with the interdisciplinary team, residents, families or representatives, and community providers.
  • Protect resident rights and maintain timely, accurate, regulation-compliant clinical documentation.

QUALIFYING QMHP PATHWAYS

Applicants must qualify through at least one of the following:
  • Meet the requirements of an Illinois Licensed Practitioner of the Healing Arts (LPHA).
  • Registered Nurse with a current license and qualifying mental-health training, supervised clinical experience, or specialized training.
  • Licensed Occupational Therapist with at least one year of clinical experience in a mental-health setting.
  • Master's or doctoral degree in counseling and guidance, rehabilitation counseling, social work, psychology, pastoral counseling, family therapy, or a related field, plus:
  • At least 1,000 hours of practicum or internship under clinical and educational supervision; or
  • One year of documented clinical experience under the supervision of a QMHP.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience with serious mental illness, psychiatric rehabilitation, recovery-oriented treatment planning, group facilitation, crisis intervention, clinical documentation, and Illinois SMHRF or DHS-DMH requirements.

TRAINING REQUIREMENT

The selected candidate must complete prescribed DHS-DMH training before assuming QMHP duties and complete additional prescribed training annually.
